There Is a Fountain Scripture Zechariah 12-13:1 Reverend Aaron Liu
Sermon Summary – 16th March 2025
Series: The Book of Zechariah
Title: There Is a Fountain
Scripture: Zechariah 12-13:1
Speaker: Reverend Aaron Liu
Introduction
Reverend Aaron Liu's sermon focused on God's divine power and redemptive work as prophesied in Zechariah 12-13. The passage reveals God’s sovereignty, His judgment on the nations, and the cleansing fountain He provides for His people.
1. He Created (Zechariah 12:1)
The sermon began with the foundational truth: God is the Creator of all. Zechariah 12:1 declares that He "stretches out the heavens, lays the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him." This highlights three key aspects:
- Created by Him – We exist because of God’s design and purpose.
- Held by Him – Our lives are sustained by His power.
- Accountable to Him – Every person will answer to God.
This verse calls us to acknowledge His ultimate authority and live with reverence and obedience.
2. He Conquers (Zechariah 12:2-9)
God declares His victory over the nations that oppose His people. Zechariah 12:2-3 speaks of Jerusalem becoming "a cup of trembling" and "an immovable rock" to all who seek to destroy it. The sermon emphasized:
- Stop asking God to be on your side – get on His. Instead of trying to fit God into our plans, we should align ourselves with His divine will.
- God defends His people – Zechariah 12:8-9 promises that God will protect Jerusalem, destroying those who come against it.
- Spiritual Warfare – Just as God fights for Israel, He fights for His people today. Our response is to trust in His victory and walk in faith.
3. He Cleanses (Zechariah 12:10-13:1)
The sermon concluded with the prophecy of the outpouring of grace and repentance. Zechariah 12:10 foretells a time when Israel will "look on Me whom they have pierced" and mourn. This foreshadows Christ’s crucifixion, where salvation is made available through His sacrifice.
- Sin stains, but the Saviour sustains. No matter how deep our sins, Christ’s atonement cleanses us completely.
- A Fountain of Cleansing (Zechariah 13:1) – God provides a fountain to wash away sin and impurity. This is a call to repentance and renewal in Christ.
- True Transformation – Just as Israel will experience revival, we too must turn to God daily, allowing His grace to purify our hearts.
Conclusion
This sermon reminded us of God’s sovereignty, His victorious power, and the cleansing He provides through Christ. It challenged us to live under His authority, trust in His victory, and receive His cleansing. As Zechariah 13:1 declares, "On that day a fountain will be opened... to cleanse them from sin and impurity." This is the hope we have in Christ—complete redemption and restoration.
Call to Action: Align with God’s will, trust in His victory, and come to the fountain of grace for renewal.
