Journal: Isaiah 31–35

Isaiah Chapter 31

1) Summary

Isaiah warns Judah not to depend on Egypt for military help against Assyria. The people trusted horses, chariots, and human strength rather than relying on God. Isaiah reminds them that the Lord Himself will defend Jerusalem and protect His people like a lion and a hovering bird.

Key Scripture

“Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help… but do not look to the Holy One of Israel.”
— Isaiah 31:1

2) Reflection

It is easy to trust visible resources, people, money, or human plans more than God. Yet human strength is limited, while God’s power is eternal.

This chapter challenges me to ask: Where do I run first when fear comes—toward God or toward worldly security?

3) Response

Lord, forgive me when I place my trust in human strength instead of You. Teach me to rely fully upon Your wisdom, protection, and guidance.

Isaiah Chapter 32

1) Summary

Isaiah describes the coming righteous King and the blessings of His reign. Under godly leadership, justice and peace will flourish. The chapter also warns complacent people to awaken spiritually because judgment is coming. Ultimately, God’s Spirit will be poured out, bringing righteousness, peace, and security.

Key Scripture

“The fruit of that righteousness will be peace; its effect will be quietness and confidence forever.”
— Isaiah 32:17

2) Reflection

True peace comes from righteousness and walking rightly before God. The world seeks peace through comfort and control, but lasting peace only comes through the work of God’s Spirit.

This reminds me not to become spiritually complacent or comfortable.

3) Response

Father, pour out Your Spirit upon my life. Help me to live righteously and become a person who brings peace and encouragement to others.

Isaiah Chapter 33

1) Summary

Isaiah declares judgment upon destroyers and oppressors but also expresses confidence in God’s salvation. The Lord is described as exalted, righteous, and glorious. Those who walk uprightly and speak truthfully will dwell securely with Him and behold His majesty.

Key Scripture

“The Lord is exalted, for he dwells on high; he will fill Zion with his justice and righteousness.”
— Isaiah 33:5

2) Reflection

God sees injustice and evil, and He will ultimately bring righteous judgment. In a world filled with corruption and fear, God remains holy, sovereign, and trustworthy.

This chapter encourages me to pursue integrity and righteousness even when the world around me does not.

3) Response

Lord, help me to walk uprightly before You. Let my words, actions, and thoughts reflect Your righteousness and truth.

Isaiah Chapter 34

1) Summary

This chapter describes God’s judgment against the nations, especially Edom, as a picture of His judgment upon all evil. The land becomes desolate because of rebellion against God. It is a solemn reminder that sin and wickedness cannot stand forever before a holy God.

Key Scripture

“For the Lord has a day of vengeance, a year of retribution.”
— Isaiah 34:8

2) Reflection

God is loving and merciful, but He is also holy and just. Evil may appear to prosper for a season, but God will ultimately bring justice.

This reminds me to live with reverence for God and not take His grace lightly.

3) Response

Father, help me to walk in holiness and humility before You. Thank You for Your mercy and justice that are both perfectly true.

Isaiah Chapter 35

1) Summary

Isaiah paints a beautiful picture of future restoration and hope. The wilderness will bloom, the weak will be strengthened, and the blind, deaf, lame, and mute will be healed. God’s redeemed people will walk on the “Highway of Holiness” with everlasting joy as sorrow and sighing flee away.

Key Scripture

“Those the Lord has rescued will return… everlasting joy will crown their heads.”
— Isaiah 35:10

2) Reflection

This chapter gives hope to weary hearts. God promises healing, restoration, joy, and eternal peace for His people.

Even when life feels dry like a wilderness, God can bring renewal and beauty again.

3) Response

Lord, strengthen my weak hands and fearful heart. Fill me with hope and help me to walk faithfully on Your path of holiness and joy.

🌿 Closing Thought (Isaiah 31–35)

These chapters remind us that:

  • Human strength and worldly security will always fail

  • God alone is our true protector and King

  • Righteousness produces peace and confidence

  • God is both perfectly just and abundantly merciful

  • Restoration, healing, and everlasting joy await God’s redeemed people
