📖 Journal: Isaiah 16–20

Isaiah Chapter 16

1) Summary

This chapter continues the prophecy concerning Moab. There is a call for Moab to seek refuge and show humility, yet pride prevents true repentance. Isaiah expresses deep compassion for Moab’s suffering, but judgment is still certain. Within a few years, Moab’s glory will fade.

Key Scripture

“We have heard of Moab’s pride—how great is her arrogance!”
— Isaiah 16:6

2) Reflection

Pride is a barrier that keeps people from turning back to God. Even when help is available, pride can prevent repentance.

This challenges me to examine whether there are areas in my life where pride is keeping me from fully surrendering to God.

3) Response

Lord, remove pride from my heart. Help me to humble myself before You and respond quickly to Your correction and guidance.

Isaiah Chapter 17

1) Summary

Isaiah prophesies judgment against Damascus and Israel. Their strength and glory will fade because they have turned away from God and relied on their own defenses. Yet, a small remnant will turn back and acknowledge the Lord.

Key Scripture

“In that day people will look to their Maker and turn their eyes to the Holy One of Israel.”
— Isaiah 17:7

2) Reflection

Sometimes God allows difficulties to redirect our focus back to Him. When everything else fails, we are reminded of our true source of strength.

Do I wait until hardship comes before I turn to God, or do I consistently keep my eyes on Him?

3) Response

Father, help me to fix my eyes on You daily, not just in times of trouble. Be my constant source of strength and security.

Isaiah Chapter 18

1) Summary

This chapter speaks about a distant nation (often understood as Cush/Ethiopia). God observes the nations quietly and will act at the right time. Ultimately, people from afar will bring offerings to the Lord, recognizing His authority.

Key Scripture

“At that time gifts will be brought to the Lord Almighty…”
— Isaiah 18:7

2) Reflection

God is never absent or inactive, even when it seems like nothing is happening. He works in His perfect timing.

This reminds me to trust God’s timing rather than becoming impatient or anxious.

3) Response

Lord, help me to trust in Your perfect timing. Teach me to wait patiently, knowing that You are always at work behind the scenes.

Isaiah Chapter 19

1) Summary

Isaiah prophesies judgment against Egypt, including internal conflict and economic collapse. However, the chapter ends with a surprising promise of restoration. Egypt, Assyria, and Israel will one day worship the Lord together, showing God’s heart for all nations.

Key Scripture

“Blessed be Egypt my people, Assyria my handiwork, and Israel my inheritance.”
— Isaiah 19:25

2) Reflection

This chapter reveals God’s redemptive heart—not just for Israel, but for all nations. Even those under judgment are not beyond His restoration.

It challenges me to see others through God’s eyes, not as enemies but as people He desires to redeem.

3) Response

Father, give me a heart for all people. Help me to see beyond differences and reflect Your love to everyone around me.

Isaiah Chapter 20

1) Summary

God instructs Isaiah to walk barefoot and stripped for a period as a sign against Egypt and Cush. This symbolic act demonstrates that these nations will be led away captive. It serves as a warning to Judah not to place their trust in foreign alliances for security.

Key Scripture

“Those who trusted in Cush and boasted in Egypt will be dismayed and put to shame.”
— Isaiah 20:5

2) Reflection

This chapter is a powerful reminder not to place my trust in human systems, relationships, or resources instead of God.

Where am I placing my security? Am I trusting God fully, or leaning on temporary solutions?

3) Response

Lord, help me to trust You completely. Remove any false security in my life and anchor my faith firmly in You alone.

🌿 Closing Thought (Isaiah 16–20)

These chapters reveal:

  • Pride prevents repentance and restoration

  • God uses circumstances to turn hearts back to Him

  • His timing is perfect and purposeful

  • God’s plan includes all nations, not just one people

  • True security is found only in Him
