Sermon By Bro Chuah Seong York
(Bro Chuah Seong York)

Introduction

引言

In this sermon, “Redemption Road,” Bro Chuah Seong York reminds us that redemption means to recover what was lost by paying a price. He highlights that humanity was lost through sin, and God, in His mercy, paid the price through Jesus Christ to bring us back to Himself.

Bro Chuah also points out that Psalm 130, one of the Songs of Ascent, reflects a spiritual journey—just like pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem. Likewise, believers today are on a journey of redemption, returning to God.

He outlines three important phases on this journey: Contrition, Assurance & Anticipation, and Proclamation.

1. Contrition – A Heart of Repentance

Scripture: Psalm 130:1–3

Bro Chuah highlights the psalmist’s cry: “Out of the depths I cry to You, Lord.” He explains that this reflects a deep sense of brokenness and awareness of sin.

He reminds us that true repentance is not just feeling sorry, but experiencing godly sorrow that leads us back to God. Without God, remorse becomes hopelessness; but with God, it leads to restoration.

Bro Chuah also emphasizes that if God were to keep a record of sins, none of us could stand. This truth humbles us and causes us to depend fully on God’s mercy.

2. Assurance and Anticipation – Hope in God’s Word

Scripture: Psalm 130:4–6

Bro Chuah draws our attention to the turning point: “But with You there is forgiveness.” He explains that this marks a shift from despair to hope, grounded in God’s character.

He highlights that forgiveness is not the end, but leads to a life of reverence and service to God. Redeemed people are called to live differently.

Bro Chuah further emphasizes the idea of active waiting, comparing it to watchmen waiting for the morning. He encourages believers to remain alert, disciplined, and faithful while trusting in God’s promises.

3. Proclamation – Sharing the Good News

Scripture: Psalm 130:7–8

Bro Chuah points out that the psalmist moves from personal experience to public proclamation: “Israel, put your hope in the Lord.”

He highlights that with God there is unfailing love and full redemption—complete forgiveness of all sins.

Using the story of Lazarus in John 11, Bro Chuah illustrates that Jesus is the resurrection and the life, demonstrating God’s power to redeem and restore.

He also encourages believers to share the gospel through both words and actions, reminding us that while some may reject the message, we are still called to faithfully proclaim it.

Conclusion

结论

Bro Chuah concludes by reminding us that the Redemption Road begins with a contrite heart, continues with assurance and hopeful waiting, and leads to proclaiming God’s salvation.

He urges believers to come humbly before God, trust in His forgiveness, and remain faithful in sharing the good news, regardless of the response.
