“When Jesus turned and saw them following, He asked, ‘What do you want?’” (John 1:38)

Rev. Aaron Liu opens by acknowledging that as we step into a new year, each of us carries different emotions in our hearts.

Some enter 2026 with excitement and expectation, while others come quietly, carrying fatigue, disappointment, and unanswered prayers.

“Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

Rev. Aaron reminds the congregation that a new year does not automatically mean renewed faith or restored strength.

But it does offer a sacred pause—a moment to listen and to discern what God may be speaking.

1. The Heart Before the Task｜先顾内心，再谈使命
“The LORD searches every heart and understands every desire.” (1 Chronicles 28:9)

Rev. Aaron explains that Jesus does not ask, “What are you seeking?” because He lacks knowledge.

Jesus already knows the human heart, but He invites honesty and surrender.

Before Jesus speaks about belief, commitment, or service, He addresses desire.

Rev. Aaron emphasizes that what we seek ultimately shapes who we become.

Jesus knows He cannot lead what we are unwilling to surrender.

As we begin 2026, Rev. Aaron reiterates that Jesus asks us again: “What are you seeking?”

2. Relationship Before Responsibility｜先有关系，后有责任
“Come,” He replied, “and you will see.” (John 1:39)

Rev. Aaron draws attention to Jesus’ response when the disciples ask where He is staying.

Jesus does not begin with instructions or expectations—He begins with invitation.

“He appointed twelve that they might be with Him.” (Mark 3:14)

Rev. Aaron stresses that Christian faith does not begin with mission, but with intimacy.

3. An Encounter That Leads to Invitation｜遇见必然带来邀请
“The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon.” (John 1:41)

Rev. Aaron highlights that after spending time with Jesus, Andrew immediately shares his encounter.

“We have found the Messiah.” (John 1:41)

There is no argument, no pressure—only testimony flowing from a transformed heart.

Rev. Aaron reminds the church that without Andrew, there would be no Peter.

Outreach, therefore, is not pressure-driven—it is overflow-driven.

Conclusion｜结论
“Here I am; send me.” (Isaiah 6:8)

As the church enters 2026—the Year of Outreach—Rev. Aaron emphasizes that Jesus first invites us to come before calling us to go.

Rev. Aaron concludes by reminding the church that before we invite others, we must first come and encounter Christ ourselves.

Outreach begins with intimacy, not activity.

Reflect and Discuss
1. As we begin this new year, what desires do you sense God is inviting you to examine in your heart?
As I enter this new year, I sense God inviting me to examine the motives behind my desires—whether they are rooted in seeking Him or in seeking outcomes. Some desires may be good on the surface—success, stability, recognition—but God is gently asking whether these desires draw me closer to Christ or subtly replace Him. Like the first disciples, I hear Jesus asking, “What are you seeking?” (John 1:38). This is an invitation to bring my ambitions, fears, and longings honestly before God, allowing Him to purify them and reorder my heart.
2. How does the invitation ‘Come, and you will see’ resonate with your current spiritual journey?
“Come, and you will see” resonates deeply as a call to trust before full understanding. In my current spiritual journey, I may not have all the answers, clarity, or certainty about what lies ahead—but Jesus does not demand that first. He invites me into relationship, presence, and experience. This invitation reminds me that faith grows not merely by information, but by walking with Christ daily, discovering who He is along the way. It encourages me to move from observation, experiencing Him to participation.
3. How can you align your desires with the kingdom of God as opposed to comfort or security this year?
Aligning my desires with God’s kingdom requires a shift in priorities—from self-preservation to faithful obedience. Practically, this means praying regularly, “Lord, shape my wants, not just my actions.” It involves choosing faithfulness over ease, generosity over accumulation, and obedience over convenience. Jesus’ kingdom calls me to seek first His righteousness (Matthew 6:33), trusting that true security is found not in comfort, but in being anchored in God’s will. This alignment happens daily, through surrender, Scripture, and sensitivity to the Spirit.
4. Is there someone in your life you feel called to invite to encounter Christ this year? How might you approach that?
Like Andrew inviting Simon Peter, I sense God calling me to invite someone relationally, not forcefully. This could be a friend, colleague, or family member who is curious, weary, or searching. The approach is simple and authentic—sharing what Christ has done in my life and extending a gentle invitation: “Come and see.” This may involve praying for them consistently, listening well, living out Christ’s love, and trusting the Holy Spirit to do the work of revelation. Evangelism begins not with pressure, but with personal encounter and loving invitation.
Closing Thought
The heart of this sermon reminds us that discipleship begins not with doing, but with being with Jesus. When we come and see, we are transformed—and transformed people naturally invite others to encounter Christ.
Opening Prayer (10:00am)
Heavenly Father,
We come before You this morning with humble hearts, grateful for the gift of life, community, and Thy living Word. As we gather as Thy disciples, we acknowledge that You are the Alpha and the Omega, the One who was, who is, and who is to come.
Lord Jesus, You are the Lamb who was slain, yet You stand victorious. As we have read in Revelation, only You are worthy to open the seals, to reveal history, suffering, judgment, and hope. We confess that many things in this world feel uncertain and heavy, yet we choose to fix our eyes on You.
Today, we hear again Thy gentle invitation: “Come and see.”
Come not merely to learn, but to encounter.
Come not to be entertained, but to be transformed.
Prepare our hearts before the task, our relationships before responsibility, and our spirits before speaking. As we reflect on Revelation chapters 6 to 10, give us wisdom to understand, faith to endure, and humility to respond.
Holy Spirit, open our eyes to see what You are revealing, soften our hearts to receive correction and encouragement, and unite us as one body in Christ. May this time draw us closer to You and align our desires with Thy kingdom.
We commit this Disciples Group meeting into Thy loving hands.

Closing Prayer
Gracious God,
We thank You for meeting us in this time of sharing, reflection, and prayer. Thank You for Thy Word that challenges us, comforts us, and calls us deeper into faithfulness. As we have journeyed through Revelation 6 to 10, we are reminded that even in judgment, You are merciful; even in silence, You are at work; and even in suffering, You remain sovereign.
Lord Jesus, thank You for inviting us again to come and see—to see You not only as Savior, but as Lord; not only as Lamb, but as King. Help us to carry what we have learned into our daily lives, not as information, but as obedience.
Teach us to trust You when the seals are opened, to persevere when the world shakes, and to pray like the saints whose prayers rise before Thy throne. Shape us into disciples who listen, follow, and invite others to encounter You.
As we leave this place, go before us. Guard our hearts, guide our decisions, and strengthen our faith. May our lives reflect Thy truth, our words reflect Thy grace, and our actions reflect Thy love.
We entrust ourselves, our families, and our week ahead to You.
All glory, honor, and praise belong to You alone.
