Journalling Job 11 to 15
📖 Job Chapter 11
1. Bible Summary
Zophar, Job’s third friend, speaks harshly against him. He accuses Job of being proud and deserving even greater punishment from God. Zophar insists that Job’s suffering must be due to sin and urges him to repent so that God may restore him. However, Zophar’s words lack compassion and understanding of Job’s true situation.
2. Key Scripture
“If you devote your heart to him and stretch out your hands to him... then, free of fault, you will lift up your face; you will stand firm and without fear.” — Job 11:13,15 (NIV)
3. Reflection
Zophar’s speech reminds us that even well-meaning people can misjudge others’ pain. He assumes Job’s suffering must come from sin, not realizing that Job’s trial was a test of faith. Sometimes, we too speak without understanding another’s struggle, forgetting that God alone knows every heart.
4. Response
Lord, help me to be slow to judge and quick to listen. Teach me to comfort others with empathy and grace instead of criticism. May my words bring healing, not hurt, to those in pain.
📖 Job Chapter 12
1. Bible Summary
Job responds to his friends with sarcasm, acknowledging their so-called wisdom. He affirms that all people — wise or simple — are under God’s control. Job declares that God’s power governs all creation and that He exalts and humbles as He wills.
2. Key Scripture
“To God belong wisdom and power; counsel and understanding are his.” — Job 12:13 (NIV)
3. Reflection
Job recognizes that human understanding is limited compared to God’s divine wisdom. Even in pain, he acknowledges God’s sovereignty. This challenges us to trust that God is in control even when life feels unfair or confusing.
4. Response
Father, I submit my questions and confusion to You. Even when I don’t understand my situation, help me to trust that Your wisdom is greater than mine.
📖 Job Chapter 13
1. Bible Summary
Job defends his integrity and expresses a strong desire to present his case before God. He rebukes his friends for their false accusations and insists on trusting God, even if it costs him his life. His famous declaration of faith shines through his suffering.
2. Key Scripture
“Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him.” — Job 13:15 (NIV)
3. Reflection
This is one of the most powerful statements of faith in the Bible. Despite immense suffering, Job still chooses to trust God. True faith is not proven when life is easy, but when we continue to hope in God amid pain and uncertainty.
4. Response
Lord, strengthen my faith like Job’s. When I face trials, help me to still say, “I will trust You.” Let my hope remain unshaken in Your goodness.
📖 Job Chapter 14
1. Bible Summary
Job reflects on the frailty of human life — short and full of trouble. He compares humans to trees that can sprout again after being cut down, expressing both despair and a glimmer of hope for life after death. Job longs for relief and restoration from God.
2. Key Scripture
“If someone dies, will they live again? All the days of my hard service I will wait for my renewal to come.” — Job 14:14 (NIV)
3. Reflection
Job’s words reveal the tension between despair and hope. Even in his sorrow, he yearns for resurrection — a powerful anticipation of eternal life. Like Job, we can find comfort in the promise of renewal through Christ.
4. Response
Lord, thank You that in Christ, death is not the end. Help me to face life’s struggles with eternal hope and faith that You will one day make all things new.
📖 Job Chapter 15
1. Bible Summary
Eliphaz speaks again, accusing Job of arrogance and sin. He insists that suffering only comes to the wicked and warns Job that he is resisting God. His words are harsh and fail to offer comfort, revealing his misunderstanding of divine justice.
2. Key Scripture
“Your own mouth condemns you, not mine; your own lips testify against you.” — Job 15:6 (NIV)
3. Reflection
Eliphaz’s approach shows how religion without compassion becomes cruelty. He relies on tradition and fear instead of truth and love. This reminds us that faith must be expressed with grace and humility, not judgment.
4. Response
Heavenly Father, keep me from self-righteousness. Teach me to comfort others with Your love and to speak only words that uplift and restore.
