Journalling Esther 6 to 10
Esther Chapter 6
Summary:
King Xerxes, unable to sleep, reads the royal records and discovers Mordecai had once saved his life but had never been honored. Haman, intending to ask for Mordecai’s execution, ironically ends up recommending—and leading—Mordecai’s public honor, humiliating himself.
Key Scripture:
“What honor and recognition has Mordecai received for this?” the king asked. “Nothing has been done for him,” his attendants answered. — Esther 6:3
Reflection:
God’s timing is never late. Even when good deeds go unnoticed, God remembers. He can use the smallest details, like a sleepless night, to shift circumstances in His favor.
Response:
I will continue to do good without expecting reward, trusting that God sees and will lift up in His perfect time.
Esther Chapter 7
Summary:
Esther courageously reveals her Jewish identity and exposes Haman’s plot before King Xerxes. The king is enraged, and Haman is sentenced to die on the very gallows he had built for Mordecai.
Key Scripture:
“For we have been sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, killed and annihilated…” — Esther 7:4
Reflection:
God honors courage rooted in love and truth. Esther’s willingness to speak up, despite great risk, brought deliverance.
Response:
I will not fear speaking the truth, especially when it comes to protecting others and standing for what is right.
Esther Chapter 8
Summary:
Esther pleads with the king to reverse Haman’s decree. The king grants Mordecai authority to write a new edict, allowing the Jews to defend themselves. Mordecai is elevated in the king’s court, and joy spreads among the Jews.
Key Scripture:
“For the Jews it was a time of happiness and joy, gladness and honor.” — Esther 8:16
Reflection:
God brings hope in what seems hopeless. What once was mourning has turned to gladness through His intervention.
Response:
I will trust God to turn situations around, and bring joy even when things look bleak.
Esther Chapter 9
Summary:
On the day Haman had planned for the Jews’ destruction, the Jews defended themselves and defeated their enemies. The Feast of Purim is established to commemorate God’s deliverance.
Key Scripture:
“But the tables were turned and the Jews got the upper hand over those who hated them.” — Esther 9:1
Reflection:
God turns the tables. His justice prevails. What was meant for evil, God turns for good.
Response:
I will celebrate and remember God’s past faithfulness and victories in my life as a testimony of His power.
Esther Chapter 10
Summary:
The book closes with Mordecai’s rise to greatness. He becomes second in command to the king and continues to work for the good of his people.
Key Scripture:
“Mordecai the Jew was second in rank to King Xerxes, preeminent among the Jews... and spoke up for the welfare of all the Jews.” — Esther 10:3
Reflection:
God elevates humble and faithful servants. Mordecai’s rise was not for his own glory, but for the good of others.
Response:
I will serve faithfully in small things, with integrity and a heart for others, trusting God with the results.
