Journalling Esther 1 to 5
🙏 Opening Prayer
Heavenly Father,
We come before Thee today with grateful hearts. Thank Thee for bringing us safely together, face to face once again, in this place of worship and fellowship. It is truly a joy and blessing to see one another, to share smiles, to pray, and to grow together in Thy Word.
As we gather in Thy name, may Thy Holy Spirit be in our midst—guiding our sharing, deepening our friendships, and drawing our hearts closer to Thee. Bless our conversations, our worship, and our study, that all we do may glorify Thee.
We give Thee thanks, too, for the meal we will share. Let it be a reminder of Thy daily provision and Thy goodness that surrounds us always.
In the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we pray,
Amen.
📖 Esther Chapter 1 – Queen Vashti Refuses the King
Summary:
King Xerxes held a grand feast and wanted Queen Vashti to appear before his guests. She refused, and he removed her from being queen.
"Therefore, if it pleases the king, let him issue a royal decree... that Vashti is never again to enter the presence of King Xerxes." – Esther 1:19
Sometimes we face pressure to act wrongly in public settings. Queen Vashti’s refusal teaches us about dignity and personal boundaries, even when it costs us.
I will stand firm for what is right, even when others expect me to compromise. Dignity and obedience to God matter more than people’s approval.
📖 Esther Chapter 2 – Esther Becomes Queen
A search for a new queen begins. Esther, a Jewish girl raised by Mordecai, is chosen by the king for her beauty and grace. She keeps her identity secret.
"Esther won the favor of everyone who saw her." – Esther 2:15
God’s hand can be seen quietly guiding our lives. He can place us in high positions for His purpose, even if we don’t understand it yet.
I will trust that God has a purpose for where I am today. I will stay humble, like Esther, and seek to honor God wherever I go.
📖 Esther Chapter 3 – Haman Plots Against the Jews
Haman, an official of the king, is angry because Mordecai refuses to bow to him. In his pride and anger, he plans to destroy all Jews in the kingdom.
"When Haman saw that Mordecai would not kneel down or pay him honor, he was enraged." – Esther 3:5
Pride can lead to destruction. Haman’s ego blinded him and made him plan evil. But God sees and knows everything.
I will not let pride rule my actions. I will choose humility and trust God to deal with those who do wrong.
📖 Esther Chapter 4 – “For Such a Time as This”
Mordecai asks Esther to speak up for the Jews. At first, she is afraid. But Mordecai reminds her that she may have been made queen “for such a time as this.”
"Who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?" – Esther 4:14
Sometimes God puts us in places where we must be brave. Esther’s story reminds us that God uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things.
I will pray for courage to speak and act when the time comes. I believe God can use me in my family, church, and workplace for His purpose.
📖 Esther Chapter 5 – Esther’s Courageous Approach
Summary:
Esther dresses in royal robes and goes to see the king, risking her life. The king welcomes her. She invites him and Haman to a banquet as her first step in her plan.
Key Verse:
"If I perish, I perish." – Esther 4:16 (from the previous chapter, but lived out here)
Reflection:
Esther shows bravery, wisdom, and patience. She doesn’t rush into exposing Haman’s plan, but acts with faith and strategy.
Response:
I will prepare my heart before I act and ask God for wisdom and timing. I will trust that He will open the right doors and give me favor.
