The All-Encompassing Circumcision
Date: 08.06.2025
Main Text: Galatians 5:6
Speaker: Chuah Seong York
“For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.”
🔍 Sermon Summary
In this message, Brother Chuah explores what true circumcision means in the New Testament. No longer a physical act, circumcision is now a spiritual condition of the heart. God looks not at outward religious symbols, but inward obedience, transformation, and love.
A Christian who is spiritually circumcised lives a life of faith expressing itself through love (Galatians 5:6), is a new creation (Galatians 6:15), and keeps God's commands (1 Corinthians 7:19). These are the real signs of God’s people today.
✂️ 3 Practical Applications of Circumcision
1. Circumcised Lips – Ready to be God’s Mouthpiece
“I have put My words in your mouth…” – Jeremiah 1:9
We are called to speak not from our own strength, but as representatives of God. Let our lips be purified to share truth, encouragement, testimony, and hope. We must eliminate gossip, slander, and coarse words, and become bold speakers of God’s Word.
2. Circumcised Ears – Ready to Listen to God
“He who has ears, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” – Revelation 2:7
A heart that is aligned with God will listen intently to His voice — through Scripture, wise counsel, and the prompting of the Holy Spirit. Many hear, but few truly listen. Are our ears tuned to His instructions?
3. Circumcised Heart – Ready to Have a Change of Heart
“Circumcise your hearts... and do not be stiff-necked any longer.” – Deuteronomy 10:16
“Create in me a clean heart, O God…” – Psalm 51:10
God desires not outward conformity, but inward change. A circumcised heart is soft, teachable, and willing to surrender pride, sin, and control.
❤️ What God Desires More Than Sacrifice
1. Mercy and Knowledge of God
“For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgment of God rather than burnt offerings.” – Hosea 6:6
2. A Broken and Contrite Heart
“The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart…” – Psalm 51:16–17
3. Obedience
“To obey is better than sacrifice…” – 1 Samuel 15:22
These scriptures reveal that God is more pleased by the posture of our hearts than the performance of our hands. He seeks intimacy, brokenness before Him, and our full obedience.
✅ Conclusion: Living as God’s Set-Apart People
This sermon reminds us that God is not looking for outward rituals or religious routines—He is looking for hearts, ears, and mouths that are spiritually circumcised—set apart, surrendered, and sensitive to His will. True faith is not proven by what we do on the outside, but by how deeply we are transformed on the inside.
As we walk forward as disciples of Christ, let us strive to be:
-
His mouthpiece, speaking words of truth, hope, and love.
-
His listener, eager to hear His voice through His Word and Spirit.
-
His follower, with hearts fully yielded to His purpose and purified by His grace.
And let us not forget what God truly desires—mercy, knowledge of Him, a contrite heart, and obedience. These are the marks of a true disciple and a spiritually circumcised life.
Let us respond today—not with more sacrifices—but with sincere devotion, daily surrender, and faith expressing itself through love.
As Paul writes in Galatians 5:6:
“The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.”
Let this be the heartbeat of our Disciples Group, and the lifestyle of each believer walking in step with the Spirit.
Amen.
✨ One Takeaway Sentence:
God wants a circumcised heart, lips, and ears—not rituals, but a life transformed by love, obedience, and surrender.
💬 Reflection & Discussion Questions
1. In what ways can you be God’s mouthpiece?
I can speak His Word through sharing my testimony, encouraging someone in distress, or even posting Scripture online. Words are powerful tools—either for building up or tearing down.
Practice Tip:
-
Intentionally encourage someone every day with a verse or prayer.
-
Volunteer to share or lead devotion in your group or family.
2. How can you listen to God? How ready are you to listen to Him?
I can make room for silence, read His Word attentively, and ask for His guidance in prayer. Listening is an act of surrender.
Practice Tip:
-
Designate a daily quiet time with no digital distractions.
-
Ask, “Lord, what are You saying to me today?” and journal the answer.
3. What areas of your life do you need a change of heart?
I need to surrender control and pride, especially when I feel the need to always be right. My heart needs to soften toward those I disagree with.
Practice Tip:
-
Confess areas of hardness with a trusted accountability partner.
-
Pray Psalm 139:23–24: “Search me, O God…”
4. Of the 4 things God desires more than sacrifice, which do you find most difficult? What can you do about it?
Obedience is the hardest, especially when it costs comfort or convenience. Yet obedience leads to freedom and blessing.
Practice Tip:
-
Break obedience into “one small step at a time” actions.
-
Use the question: “What does obedience look like for me today?”
