Journal Nehemiah 11 to 13
🙏 Opening Prayer
Heavenly Father,
We come before You with hearts full of thanksgiving for this opportunity to gather as a discipleship group. Thank You for the gift of community and for each person present here today.
On this special Father’s Day reflection, we thank You for the fathers, mothers, grandparents, and spiritual leaders who have helped shape our lives. Lord, we ask that You open our hearts as we listen, share, and learn from one another. May the message shared through Brother Yap Koon Roy — about true greatness, godly love, and Christlike relationships — take root in our hearts today.
Teach us, Lord, to reject the poisons of neglect, anger, and careless words, and to embrace thy calling to love, forgive, serve, and train the next generation in thy truth.
Bless this time of fellowship and reflection. Holy Spirit, guide our thoughts and conversations, that everything we say and do may glorify You.
In Jesus’ name we pray,

📖 Nehemiah 11
1. Bible Summary:
This chapter outlines how leaders and volunteers were chosen to live in Jerusalem to repopulate the holy city. A tenth of the people were selected by casting lots, while others volunteered. The rest stayed in the surrounding towns. It also lists the heads of provinces, priests, Levites, gatekeepers, and temple servants who settled in Jerusalem.

“Now the leaders of the people lived in Jerusalem. And the rest of the people cast lots to bring one out of ten to live in Jerusalem, the holy city, while nine-tenths remained in the other towns.” – Nehemiah 11:1 (ESV)
3. Reflection:
This chapter reminds us that serving God often requires sacrifice and obedience. Moving into Jerusalem was not glamorous — it was about duty. Those who volunteered showed courage and faithfulness to restore the heart of the nation.
4. Response:
Lord, help me to willingly step into roles You call me to, even when they require sacrifice or stepping out of comfort zones. Give me a heart like those who volunteered — obedient and eager to serve.
📖 Nehemiah 12
1. Bible Summary:
Nehemiah 12 records the list of priests and Levites, and the joyous dedication of Jerusalem’s wall. Two large choirs marched around the city walls in opposite directions, giving thanks and praising God, ending with sacrifices and great joy.
2. Key Scripture:
“And they offered great sacrifices that day and rejoiced, for God had made them rejoice with great joy; the women and children also rejoiced. And the joy of Jerusalem was heard far away.” – Nehemiah 12:43 (ESV)
3. Reflection:
There is power in unified worship. The celebration wasn’t just ritual — it was genuine, loud, and contagious joy. When we see God’s work fulfilled, our response should be thanksgiving and praise.
4. Response:
Lord, help me to praise You with my whole heart. May my life be a song of gratitude, and may others see and hear the joy that comes from knowing You.
📖 Nehemiah 13
1. Bible Summary:
Nehemiah returns to find spiritual and moral compromise in Jerusalem: Tobiah given a temple room, Levites neglected, Sabbath broken, and mixed marriages resumed. Nehemiah corrects these issues firmly, enforcing reforms and cleansing the temple.
2. Key Scripture:
“Remember me, O my God, concerning this, and do not wipe out my good deeds that I have done for the house of my God and for his service.” – Nehemiah 13:14 (ESV)
3. Reflection:
Spiritual decline can happen quickly when vigilance wanes. Nehemiah's righteous anger was not about control, but about holiness. True leadership calls for boldness in confronting compromise with love and truth.
4. Response:
Father, teach me to guard my spiritual life diligently. Where I’ve allowed compromise, convict me. Like Nehemiah, help me to act courageously for what is right in Your eyes.
